ParaVolley Opportunity - Beach World Series Open, Pingtan, China - Call for Expressions of Interest
Beach World Series Open, Pingtan, Fuzhou, China - May 9 - 12 2019
Volleyball Australia and Disability Sports Australia are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for an Australian team to participate in an international ParaVolley Standing Beach event. The 2019 Pingtan Beach World Series Open, to be held in Pingtan, Fuzhou, China, from May 9th – 12th, 2019 is part of World Paravolley’s campaign to have Standing Beach Volleyball included in the 2028 Paralympics. A team consisting of 3 athletes and a coach will be selected to represent Australia in this event.
Expressions of Interest - Coach
To register your interest in this coaching position, please submit your volleyball specific resume (coaching experience, qualifications, working with vulnerable people card or your state’s equivalent) to pathways@avf.org.au by 11 February 2019.
A player / coach will also be considered.
Call for Expressions of Interest – Athletes
To register your interest for consideration as an athlete for this event, please submit your volleyball specific resume (age, height, playing history including competitive beach volleyball, impairment including classification if known) to pathways@avf.org.au by 18 February 2019.
Participation in this event will be self-funded. VA and DSA will continue to seek sponsor support to reduce costs and will also facilitate classification and eligibility checks.
Standing Beach Rules
A team of 3 athletes (Male, Female or Mixed) will compete on a standard Beach Volleyball court using standard Beach Volleyball rules. More details of the rules can be found at the World ParaVolley website here.
Athlete Eligibility
In order to compete at the international level an athlete must have a physical impairment and must go through the process of Classification prior to participating. As a guide, an example of a minimum impairment is a cross hand or cross foot amputation. Other eligible impairments include cerebral palsy and other neurological or musculoskeletal conditions.
