Get Active

Where to start:

Engaging in sports and physical activities offers numerous benefits for people with disability.

At Disability Sports Australia, our mission is to ensure that everyone can access and participate in sports in a way that is meaningful to them.

Whether you’re starting this journey yourself or supporting a loved one, we provide the knowledge and connections you need to get started.

No matter your current level of physical activity, there are options that are right for you.

This page is structured to provide valuable knowledge and connections to both mainstream and disability-specific organisations, helping you discover the sports and activities that suit your needs and interests.

This Get Active page will connect you to organisations, not specific programs, ensuring you have access to up-to-date and relevant opportunities.

Explore your Disability Specific Pathway

Within Australia, numerous sports pathways are available for people with disabilities. While we recognize that individuals may have multiple disability, this section is tailored to simplify the process.

Whether you are visually impaired and aspire to play in your local community or dream of competing at the Paralympics, there is a pathway out there tailored specifically for you.

Find a sport for you

In addition to the disability-specific sport pathways outlined above, it's important that people with disability have the choice between disability-specific and mainstream sport activities.

This list of organisations provides adaptive sport opportunities.

While Disability Sports Australia used to deliver sports, particularly wheelchair sports, we are now disability agnostic.

To ensure clarity in the sports system, you will be directed to a National Sport Organisation's website and page most suited for participating in sports as a person with disability.

If a page is out of date please let us know.

Connect with National Sporting Organisations for People with Disability

The National Sports Organisations for People with Didability (NSODs) are an excellent starting point for people with disability who want to become more active.

They provide advice, support, and opportunities for individuals of all ages with specific impairments.

As one of the NSODs, Disability Sports Australia is here to help you get moving and enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle.

Our focus is on helping you participate in grassroot sport.

On the NSOD websites, you can find out how each organisation can support your journey towards greater physical activity.
