Welcome to the fourth edition of ‘Member Monthly’, your monthly window into the activities of Disability Sports Australia's (DSA) member organisations. We are excited to share with you the impact our dedicated state member organisations across the country.

In this edition, we will shine a spotlight once again on three of our members, ParaQuad Tasmania, Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT, and Rebound WA.

Meet Trent from ParaQuad

Meet Trent!

Trent works at DSA’s state member organisation ParaQuad Tasmania. ParaQuad Tasmania is the leading, trusted voice for people living with spinal cord injury and physical disability in Tassie. 

Trent is the Physical Disability Sports Assistant for the Northwest region.

At our Tasmanian Activate Inclusion Sports Days, you’ll see Trent come with his trailer of sports wheelchairs to deliver Wheelchair Basketball.

Trent’s heavily involved in both Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair AFL. 

On Friday nights at Ulverstone Basketball Stadium, he hosts 6-week programs alternating between the two.

2024 Paralympics Australian Captains

Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT have recently announced that their member Angela Ballard will be leading Team Australia at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris alongside Curtis McGrath. 

Angela Ballard has a successful history at previous Paralympic Games in athletics. She secured medals, including a silver in the relay at Rio 2016 and a bronze in the 1500m event at London 2012. Ballard’s Games’ experience and determination has aided her to becoming a respected figure in the world of para-athletics. 

Curtis McGrath is a highly accoladed para-canoeist. With a total of 14 gold medals to his name, McGrath has consistently excelled at the international level. He's a two-time Paralympic gold medallist, having won in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. 

Ballard and McGrath bring a wealth of talent and leadership to Team Australia, setting the stage for an exciting journey to the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.

Rebound WA Member Para-Powerlifting in Dubai

Congratulations to Rebound WA para-powerlifter Ben Wright for representing Australia at the Dubai 2023 Para Powerlifting World Championships.

Wright’s lift propelled him to the top of the Men's Up to 88kg category, showcasing his remarkable talent on the world stage. On his last attempt, he managed to break a personal record by lifting 191 pounds/86.6kg.
