Disability Sports Australia (DSA) is one of Australia’s nine (9) National Sporting Organisations for people with a disability (NSODs). Each of these organisations share a common purpose of improving the lives of Australians living with disability using sport as the medium.
By promoting sport and active recreation, DSA aims to connect Australians with disabilities to local sport and recreation opportunities.
DSA has a critical role in leading, fostering and encouraging interest and participation in sport and recreational activities for people with a disability amongst all Australians of all ages and abilities.

About this Opportunity
We are currently recruiting two Non-Executive Directors.
Two positions will become vacant at the Annual General Meeting in November 2024, each with a term of three (3) years.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals interested in an opportunity to join DSA’s Board of Directors.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Elected Board Director position a nominee must meet the following criteria:
Satisfy key criteria with relevant experience; and
Agree to be bound by the DSA constitution and policies.
The Board of Directors Role
A skills-based Board of independent Directors leads Disability Sports Australia. The Board’s role includes governance of the organisation and providing strategic leadership by way of:
Strategic direction of the organisation;
Effective oversight of management;
Adoption of an annual budget and fiscal oversight;
Recruitment, orientation and development of new board members;
Appointment and management of the performance of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO);
Evaluation of the Board’s performance and overall performance of DSA in achieving its mission; and
Monitoring key financial and non-financial risk areas by ensuring the implementation of an effective risk management and internal control framework.
Skills and Experience
The Director skill set sought for the Board is based on DSA’s current strategic priorities and the existing Board Skills Matrix.
DSA has assessed the current skills composition and future strategic needs of the Board and is interested in receiving applications from candidates that could bring skills in one or more of the following specialist or strategic competencies.

Fundraising/Asset Knowledge of Sponsorship
We want Board members to advocate for Disability Sports Australia across all key strategic imperatives. We invite people who can question and challenge constructively, who bring diverse views and can influence others and find solutions.
As a leading disability sport organisation, Disability Sports Australia is committed to Board diversity that reflects Australia’s diverse communities and is also gender balanced. We also seek the recruitment of individuals who have the essential skills, competencies and experience to lead the organisation’s nationwide growth and development.
Director positions are voluntary, meetings are held online every six weeks, on Tuesday evenings.
You will be reimbursed for travel and accommodation expenses incurred during DSA activities.
Consideration and review of the nomination
The DSA Nominations and Remuneration Committee (NomRem) is responsible for the assessment of all applications and for making recommendations on candidates.
In accordance with the DSA Constitution, the NomRem has the power to determine that a nomination is unsuitable for further consideration.
Expressions of interest received will be reviewed by the DSA NomRem Committee, which may also interview candidates at its discretion throughout October 2024.
The names and biographies of candidates who are recommended to proceed will be provided to members no later than seven days prior to the AGM which is to be held on Thursday the 28th of November 2024.
