Max Reilly joins the Disability Sports Australia team

Disability Sports Australia (DSA) is delighted to announce Max Reilly as the newly appointed Events and Communications Officer.

This new position will play a critical role supporting operational delivery of the 2022 Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championships and guiding Disability Sports Australia’s communication and digital presence in partnership with Madeline Wood in the existing team.

Reilly comes from a wealth of charity, event and sport development experience having done work and supported Disability Sport & Recreation (DSR), Make-A-Wish Australia, and Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Recently, Reilly was the Sport and Recreation Participation Officer and Events Assistant at DSR. This was as part of the ‘Phoenix Project’ - a seven-strong team that revitalised the Victorian disability sport and recreation sector in a COVID-normal world.

Throughout his time at DSR, Reilly also immersed himself in their Wheelchair Rugby Victoria program. The state’s wheelchair rugby program formed deeper connections with its existing community and reached new audiences from Reilly’s storytelling on their social media channels.

He has a fascination with people and how they all possess a unique and powerful story. Disability Sports Australia intends to harness this interest and skillset to connect people to adaptive programs across the country.

General Manager- Programs and Partnerships Ayden Shaw is excited to have Max join the team.

“We are delighted to have Max join our team with our National Championship event in November continuing to grow in size and scale almost daily,” Shaw stated.

“We also recognize that it is critical for us to appoint this position within the business which will enhance our capacity for storytelling and amplifying our members and programs.”

“The digital landscape is forever changing and as an organization we need to continually adapt to maximise exposure and awareness.”

Reilly is overjoyed to be a part of the DSA team.

“It is humbling to work for an organisation that helps people on a national scale so early in my professional career,” Reilly expressed.

“I am thrilled to be a part of DSA’s next chapter.”

The role of Events and Communications Officer will be reporting directly to the General Manager – Programs and Partnerships.

Max is based in Victoria and commenced his role with Disability Sports Australia on the 19th of September supporting the activation of the Inclusive Sports Zone at the Melbourne Showgrounds.
