Your Sport Guide to International Day of People with a Disability, 3 December 2019

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is celebrated each year on 03 December 2019 to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

Disability Sports Australia fully supports IDPwD and has compiled a selection of sport-oriented programs and events happening to celebrate IDPwD in each state and territory across Australia. Check them out below and register today!

New South Wales

  • Zone Bowling - Rooty Hill – Are offering 1 game of free bowling on 3 December, from 10am - 3pm for disability clients and carers - book now!

  • 3 Days Paralympic Sports – From 2- 4 December, True Sports Events in partnership with Sydney Olympic Park Authority are holding a 3-day free program to try out a range of different paralympic sports from 12pm – 2:30pm. Register today.

  • Surf, Sand & Snags –  Come down to the Jetty Foreshore Park in Coffs Harbour from 10am – 2pm for music, dancing, fun games and all abilities surfing. Food and drinks provided if you RSVP today!

ACT

  • All Abilities Basketball Tournament – Come down to Canberra College from 11am – 2:30pm for an all abilities basketball tournament, followed by an award ceremony and refreshments!

  • IDPwD Disco - Marist Brothers College from 6pm – 8pm.

Queensland

South Australia

  • National Parks & Wildlife Service SA – Has organised a series of community events on 3 December, for people with disabilities and their families to experience the benefits and joy of being in nature. Register today.

  • Look At Leap - Leap Inclusion Services are providing a light lunch and some fun activities to participate in from 12pm – 2pm at Holdfast Bay Community Centre in Hove, SA.

Victoria

  • 2019 Disability Sport & Recreation Festival  - Explore and experience accessible and inclusive sport and recreation through hands-on activities and information sharing at the Disability Sport & Recreation Festival on 3 December from 10 am - 3 pm!

  • Australian feature film Kairos - Acclaimed at the Melbourne International Film Festival, the award winning independent Australian feature film KAIROS will be released in cinemas NATIONALLY on 5 December. Look for it in a cinema near you!

Western Australia

  • The Law Enforcement Try-a-Sport Event -  come and try games like Bocce, short tennis and team games from 10am – 1pm at ECU campus, Joondalup.

  • Disrupted – DSA Youth Ambassador, Emily Prior will be featured on “Rocky and Me” on ABCMe, Tuesday 3 December at 6:00pm NATIONALLY to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

Northern Territory

  • Darwin Disability Sports Carnival – Schools are encouraged to come and try a variety of different disability sports and enjoy a free sausage sizzle at the Disability Sports Carnival at Darwin Basketball Stadium on Thursday, 5 December 2019!

  • Carnival of Fun – Come down to Marrara from 11am – 2pm for games and fun activities suitable for all abilities, entertainment, food and drinks, photobooth, guest speaker & Lord Mayoral awards for people with disability.

Tasmania

  • Music Extravaganza – From 12pm – 2pm at Elizabeth Street Mall, the music extravaganza offers all ability artists the opportunity to perform to a public audience!
